International tour of THE PRODUCERS announces full casting

Selladoor Worldwide is delighted to announce that they will tour a brand-new production of The Producers this Autumn. The laugh-out-loud musical spectacle opens at Shanghai Culture Square, prior to a 14 week tour of China. This tour marks Selladoor Worldwide’s 8th International tour since 2014 as part of an ongoing international strategy.

Based on Mel Brooks' much -loved Academy Award winning movie The Producers tells the comedic tale of Max Bialystock, the one­time producing tycoon of Broadway who desperately wants to make his fortune, together with Leo Bloom, an innocent but ambitious accountant, who has his own visions of becoming a successful Broadway producer. Together they discover that their fortunes may lie in producing a flop rather than a hit and begin the hunt for the worst show, worst director, and worst actors of all time. Unfortunately for them, their dismal new production, Springtime for Hitler, ends up being a box office smash hit sensation throwing their lives and all their fool proof plans into disarray.

The original film won an Oscar for Best Writing, Story, and Screenplay in 1969. Gene Wilder was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The musical debuted on Broadway in 2001 and garnered 15 Tony nominations winning 12 of them.

REVIEW: The Producers at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking

A stellar cast leads by example in this triumphant opening night.

Mel Brooks’ classic musical about a struggling Broadway producer dazzled tonight as the nationwide tour stops at Woking. With its all-star cast living up to their top line billing and support cast raising the bar; this was a production for others to live up to.

The script was funny and tight, the comedy on point, slapstick and just a touch bawdy and blue and the songs memorable and bright. The set was simple and scaled down (cue mini sized taxi prop!) but this only helped to fuel the actor’s fire.

JASON MANFORD to star in the UK Tour of THE PRODUCERS

                                      

Award winning comedian Jason Manford will star in a brand new UK Tour of The Producers. Based on Mel Brooks’ beloved Academy Award winning movie, The Producers is a hilarious musical comedy that has taken Broadway and the West End by storm, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards and 3 Olivier Awards; it opens its UK tour in March 2015.

Jason Manford, one of the UK’s best loved comedians, will take on the role of downtrodden accountant Leo Bloom in his first ever musical theatre UK tour. Manford’s wealth of experience spans from a critically

acclaimed West End role in Sweeney Todd, alongside Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, to award-winning stand-up comedy shows across the country. He shot to stardom in 2007 as team captain on C4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, since then he has hosted prime time television shows including Sunday Night at the Palladium, BBC1’s A Question of Sport: Super Saturday and The Royal Variety Performance. Jason was the winner of ITV1’s Born to Shine and will star in BBC TV’s forthcoming drama Ordinary Lies.

Jason Manford is also rumoured to star in the Musical, according to the Mirror he has signed on to play a lead. 

Impoverished by a string of flops, New York producer Max Bialystock recruits timid accountant Leo Bloom to help him pull off Broadway’s greatest scam. Together they aim to produce the worst show ever and run away to Rio with millions, but they learn that Showbusiness can always find a way to kick you in the teeth…
