REVIEW: Who's Holiday at the Southwark Playhouse

It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Yet this year if you visit the Southwark Playhouse, you will find a fresh tale that is legendary, no doubt!

As someone who unashamedly identifies as a festive fanatic, I was thrilled to attend the press night of Who’s Holiday by Matthew Lambardo, currently making its European debut at the Southwark Playhouse in London until 7th January 2023.

The one-person show, starring Ru Paul’s Drag Race royalty and fan favourite Miz Cracker, re-introduces us to everybody’s favourite Who, Cindy-Lou Who, except this time, she is all grown up, and not so innocent! As you take a trip back to Mount Crumpit, we check in with this not-so-small Who, as she reflects on that infamous night she met the Grinch, and the whirlwind adventure of events that has led to her not-so-festive, isolated reality.

This adults-only tale takes the beloved Christmas story, and unapologetically rewrites it into a shocking, sensual, and side-splitting sequel that is packed full of unexpected twists, turns, and time behind bars!

Miz Cracker, who is the sole star of the show, gave a fabulous performance from start to finish, showing fantastic characterisation, charisma, and undeniable humour. The true highlight, however, was her faultless delivery of the unmistakable trademark Suess rhymes, which the entire script is written in, adding a familiar, yet farcical element to the plot.

This rhyming touch was an unexpected twist and significantly added to the crude comedy throughout while reminding us of the tales oh so innocent origins. Although the laughs come in thick and fast throughout, there was a clear heartfelt and wholesome warmth at the centre of this sequel, that celebrated the festivities that Christmas has to offer.

If you are looking for a magnificent evening or memorable merriment this Winter, then be sure to snap up a ticket to Who’s Holiday! This unbelievable story packed full of glitz and giggles is something you have to see to believe and is guaranteed to make even the meanest of Grinches crack a smile!

This show would make the perfect present for any Drag Race superfan!
