Further casting announced for Carousel in Concert at Cadogan Hall


Further casting has been announced for the upcoming concert performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s iconic musical CAROUSEL for one night only at Cadogan Hall on Sunday 19th May.

Joining the previously announced Joanna Riding, Janie Dee and Hadley Fraser are Chizzy Akudolu as Mrs Mullin, Stewart Clarke as Jigger Craigin, Lucy Schaufer as Nettie Fowler andGavin Spokes as Enoch Snow.

They are joined by The GSA Singers from Guildford School of Acting.

Chizzy Akudolu (Mrs Mullin) is best known for playing series regular Mo Effanga in Holby City for BBC1. She most recently played the role of Maria in Edmond De Bergerac for The Birmingham Rep. Chizzy was also a contestant in 2017's Strictly Come Dancing and 2018's Masterchef and is a regular Loose Women panellist.

Stewart Clarke (Jigger Craigin) is currently appearing in Trevor Nunn’s acclaimed revival of Fiddler On The Roof (Playhouse Theatre & Menier Chocolate Factory). He recently played Dino in Kander & Ebb’s The Rink (Southwark Playhouse) and also appeared in Assassins (Menier Chocolate Factory),Ghost (UK Tour) and A Streetcar Named Desire (Leicester Curve).

Lucy Schaufer (Nettie Fowler) is a Grammy Award winner often described as “the go-to gal in contemporary opera”. Recently, she performed the role of Lucy in Venables’ 4:48 Psychosis at London’s Royal Opera House and will take it to New York for the US premiere at Prototype Festival and Strasbourg for the European premiere for Opera du Rhin.

Gavin Spokes (Enoch Snow) recently appeared as Harry in Marianne Elliott’s award-winning revival of Company (Gielgud Theatre). Previous credits include Enoch Snow in Carousel (ENO) and Quiz(West End). He received an Olivier award nomination for his performance as Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys And Dolls (West End)

The 1945 musical marks the second collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and is based on Ferenc Molnar’s 1909 play Liliom. The story revolved around carousel barker Billy Bielow, whose romance with millworker Julie Jordan come at the price of both their jobs. He participates in a robbery to provide for Julie and their unborn child; after it all goes tragically wrong, he is given a chance to make things right. A secondary plot line deals with millworker Carrie Pepperidge and her romance with ambitious fisherman Enoch Snow. The show premiered prior to the inception of the Tony Awards, but at the time won eight Donaldson Awards.

This one-night concert performance will feature a thirty-one-piece orchestra conducted by Alex Parker playing Don Walker’s complete original orchestration.

It is produced by Jack Maple & Brian Zeilinger for Take Two Theatricals, and Quick Fantastic.

The concert will play Cadogan Hall on Sunday 19th May at 6.30PM.
