Monthly Obsessions! October 2016

Actress - Eva Noblezada

This ‘Mexic-Asian’ superstar burst onto the West End stage in 2014, making her professional debut in the leading role of Kim in Miss Saigon at just 18 years old. The cinema screening of Miss Saigon’s 25th Anniversary performance was an overwhelming success with Miss Noblezada receiving widespread acclaim for her incredible performance. You can now see Eva in Les Miserables as Eponine at the Queen’s Theatre. Be sure to catch her before she flies away to Broadway to reprise her role as Kim in 2017! Tickets available here.

Actor – Johnathan Sayer

Jonathan is an Olivier award-winning writer and the company director of Mischief Theatre working as a writer, actor and producer. Nothing short of a comedic genius, Sayer wins our Actor of the Month prize Having previously performed in The Play That Goes Wrong, and Peter Pan Goes Wrong, as well as co-writing them both, Sayer can now be seen starring in The Comedy About A Bank Robbery as Warren Slax. Tickets start at £20, and the show is now booking until October 2017.

West End Show - Phantom of the Opera

This month, POTO celebrated its 30th Anniversary, so from all the team at Pocket Size Theatre, we send our belated birthday wishes! In a very special Facebook live stream event, fans across the globe were given access to see inside Her Majesty’s Theatre for a one-of-a-kind finale starring not only current cast members Ben Forster, Celinde Shoenmaker, and Nadim Naaman, but some very very special guests including John Owen Jones, Sierra Boggess, Michael Ball and original Phantom, Michael Crawford.

Check out the POTO Facebook page to catch up, or if you’d like to buy tickets to the show, click here.

Touring Production – Billy Elliot

Fresh from its 11 year West End run, Billy Elliot is now embarking on its first ever UK and Ireland tour. Featuring a timeless score by Elton John, sensational dance and a powerful story that has captivated millions around the world, Billy Elliot the Musical is a funny, uplifting and spectacular theatrical experience that will stay with you forever.

Cast Album – Catch Me If You Can – The Original Broadway Cast Recording

It is my personal opinion that Catch Me If You Can is one of the most underrated musicals ever written. Its stint on Broadway starring Aaron Tveit, Norbert Leo Butz and Kerry Butler was all too brief, and it never made it onto a West End stage for reasons beyond my understanding. This cast album is absolutely awesome – there’s not a bad song on there. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I’m looking forward to visiting GSA early next month to see their 3rd year Musical Theatre students perform this show!

Social Media – Zoe Doano

Currently starring as Cosette in Les Miserables, Zoe Doano’s YouTube channel "Ever So Zo" has recently been gifted with a series of insightful behind the scenes vlogs filmed at The Queen’s Theatre, the home of Les Mis. If you’re interesting in learning more about the technology behind the revolve, the costume cupboards, how cast members stay vocally healthy, and what it’s like to be an emergency cover, check out Doano’s channel now! Click here.

Gossip

Rumour has it, the world’s favourite composer, Lin Manuel Miranda, could be joining the ranks of the new West End Hamilton cast when the show moves to London! I wanna be in the room when that happens.
Could “The Exorcist” be transferring to the West End? The new production is currently running in Birmingham, but with a strong audience and critics reception, rumours of a West End transfer are flying around the circuit.

Special Mention

Rent’s 20th anniversary production has released a series of videos to its Facebook page to show the outrageously talented cast in rehearsals as they prepare for their residency at the St James theatre later this year! Tickets available here.
