Robert Powell is set to return as Poirot in Murder On Air

Following his huge success as the world-famous Belgian sleuth in Black Coffee earlier this year, Robert Powell is set to return as Poirot in Murder On Air, for one week only, in his hometown of Salford from September 16th at The Lowry.

Robert, well known for his portrayal of Jesus in Franco Zefferelli’s Jesus of Nazareth, rejoins The Agatha Christie Company for three gripping radio thrillers from the Queen of Crime, read in an authentic studio setting with live sound effects in the style of their original BBC broadcasts.

Having already wowed critics and audiences alike as the diminutive detective during the UK tour of Black Coffee, it’s not just a welcome return to the role of Poirot for Robert, but also a homecoming for the actor who was born and bred in the Greater Manchester borough and, as an alumni of the University of Salford, was honoured by the institute when it named its theatre after him.

He will also be reunited with Black Coffee co-star and Company regular Liza Goddard, whose many roles include TV hits such as Bergerac and Give Us A Clue.

In his 50-year acting career, Robert has received multiple awards as well as a BAFTA nomination for Jesus of Nazareth. He went on to star in numerous film hits including The Thirty-Nine Steps, Four Feathers and Shaka Zulu. His extensive stage performances include Alan Bennett’s Single Spies, Keith Waterhouse’s Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell and Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. He is also well known for starring alongside Jasper Carrott in the 90s TV sitcom The Detectives, and more recently as Mark Williams in BBC One’s Holby City.

Robert and Liza will be accompanied by a full supporting company of players for their Salford run.

Murder On Air is on at The Lowry from September 16th-20th.
