With the critically acclaimed revival of Richard Bean’s Toast currently running in Park200 and Anna Jordan’s Chicken Shop about to open in Park90, today Park Theatre Artistic Director Jez Bond announces the full cast for Damien Tracey’s sharp political drama Warde Street, set in the aftermath of the July 7th 2005 London bombings. Jenny Eastop directs a company that includes Omar Ibrahim, Avita Jay, Shane Noone, Maya Saroya and Corin Stuary. The production will open in Park90 on 6 October, with previews from 30 September, and runs until 26 October.
Warde Street tells the story of Eddie, an ordinary man, whose life is ripped apart when his wife is killed in the July 7th 2005, London bombings. Unable to join the masses as they return to their own version of normal, Eddie abandons London for his boy-hood home, Manchester, to heal and somehow start over. An unexpected encounter with his oldest friend, Ash, sets off a chain of events that will leave a sister fighting for the truth, a desperate father fighting for his freedom and the murky motivations of a career politician laid bare.
Warde Street examines the repercussions of unforgiveness, and the devastating affect it has on all who encounter it. The play received a short run at Tristan Bates Theatre in 2013.
Omar Ibrahim plays Ashfaq. His theatre credits include News Revue (Canal Cafe Theatre), Mohammed and I (Vault Festival), Acres (New Diorama), Theatre Uncut (Young Vic, Drum Theatre and Barbican Theatre Plymouth), The Time Of Your Life and Make Me A Martyr (Finborough Theatre) and Unseen (V&A Museum). His film work includes Missing Something.
Avita Jay plays Samiya. Her theatre credits include Spare (New Diorama Theatre), Toad (Southwark Playhouse), Sunday Morning at the Centre of the World (Southwark Playhouse, Battersea Arts Centre, Tara Arts), The Merry Wives of Windsor (UK tour), Secret Cinema’s Brazil, The Hard Comedy: Offline (Canal Cafe Theatre), Twelve (Tristan Bates Theatre) and Sotiria's Army (Riverside Studios). Her television credits include L8R; and for film, London Paris New York and Twenty8K.
Shane Noone plays Eddie. His theatre credits include King Lear (National Theatre), Zara’s Casket(Paddington Arts Centre) and The Steward of Christendom (The Teacher’s Club).
Maya Saroya plays Yasmeenah. Her theatre credits include Love in the 21st Century (Hen and Chickens Theatre), 12 (Kali Theatre Company), Challenge (Soho Theatre). Her film work includes Secrets from the Past and Bad Intentions.
Corin Stuart plays David. His theatre credits include The Audition (Arcola Theatre), Romeo & Juliet (Action to the Word), Diva (Secret Cinema), The Lesson, The Chairs and Peer Gynt (Atelier Theatre) and The Quest (New Vic). His film work includes The Monuments Men, Tales of Albion and Mercenaries.
Warde Street is Damien Tracey’s ninth play to be professionally produced. Previous writing credits includeFaster Higher Stronger Straighter, Oísín and Tir Na Nóg, The Princess and The Dragon Wizard, Chú Chullain, Son of Derry Ruler of None, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, Why I Didn’t Kill Myself – A Comedy and Deidre Of Sorrows.
Jenny Eastop directs. She has directed new writing for companies such as Paines Plough, Hull Truck, West Yorkshire Playhouse. She has directed several productions with her theatre company Mercurius including A Trick to Catch the Old One (The Rose Playhouse), Vaudevilles (Jermyn Street Theatre), School for Wives(White Bear Theatre). Other credits include So Long Life (Tobacco Factory, Bristol), Henna Night (Leicester Square Theatre), A Trick to Catch the Old One and A Mad World My Masters (National Theatre Studio). She has also worked as an Associate Director on Blithe Spirit (Gielgud Theatre) and Democracy (National Theatre, Wyndham’s Theatre, Broadway and Sydney Theatre Company).
